HESTER DRAYCOTT

Hester Draycott is a British visual and performance artist who has been living in Chile for the past 15 years.

I am an artist, mother of three and a migrant. I work with Performance to reflect the fragility and beauty of life, which exists in the present and lasts only in memory. From the perspective of an artist I try to understand and investigate life itself, using my body as a path of communication, through its exploration I delve into the understanding of the unconscious. My current work aims to respond to and transform gender bias in society, I explore the dynamics of being a woman and mother in my geographical territory, and at the same time I examine the notion of this collective consciousness and the weight it has. Memory and identity make their way through bodily expression, along with domestic objects related to “housework,” and thus be able to examine socio-political issues. I am currently working on a year long durational performance which consists of performing a daily action every day of the year through out 2024, I am currently three months into this project.
